Licensed Psychotherapist
Practice Philosophy
As a highly trained and compassionate therapist with over 15 years of experience, I am passionate about supporting individuals and couples through the various transitions of their lives. Specializing in treating couples who have faced the trauma of infidelity and betrayal, I recognize the profound and challenging journey of healing that accompanies such experiences. It requires extensive training, experience, as well as qualities like empathy, compassion, leadership, and patience.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of guiding numerous individuals and couples through this transformative process, witnessing their resilience as they heal and rebuild healthier and stronger selves. In addition to addressing infidelity, I have worked with couples navigating a wide range of relational difficulties. These may include unresolved conflicts, communication issues, ineffective conflict management, disconnection, loneliness, lack of sexual desire, mismatched libidos, and sexless relationships.
Central to my approach is creating a safe and supportive space where individuals and couples can openly explore their challenges. I emphasize the development of effective communication strategies and the rebuilding of self-trust. Collaboratively, we address underlying issues and foster lasting change, believing in the power of relational growth. My ultimate goal is to empower individuals and couples, helping them cultivate more fulfilling relationships, enhanced intimacy, and greater overall well-being. My philosophy of treatment is to promote a deep therapeutic relationship with my clients, offering a safe space where they feel listened to, understood, and cared for. I also provide my clients with an unconditional positive regard.
Therapeutic Approach
With a warm and relational approach grounded in attachment theory, neuroscience, and mindfulness, I will support you in exploring your deepest desires and finding healthy and constructive paths to achieve them. Together, we will navigate towards vibrant and fulfilling relationships, while shedding unhelpful patterns. Through our collaborative work, you will feel deeply understood, connected, challenged, and supported. Our therapeutic space will provide a safe environment to process your hurts, doubts, and discover your true self. Rest assured, our counseling relationship will prioritize confidentiality, practical wisdom, and a safe space for acceptance.
Specialties
Couples Therapist
As a dedicated couples therapist, my primary goal is to support partners in transforming old negative and dysfunctional patterns of relating into healthier, more constructive ways of interacting. Through the utilization of evidence-based models, such as the Gottman Couples Therapy Model, I have honed my skills and expertise in helping couples achieve sustained, long-lasting change. By guiding couples to acquire and practice new relational skills, I empower them to deepen their connection, enhance intimacy, and cultivate a more fulfilling and joyful life together.
With over 12 years of experience working with the Gottman Couples Therapy Model and being a Gottman Level 3 practitioner, I bring a deep understanding of the dynamics and principles that contribute to successful relationships. Additionally, I am currently undergoing advanced-level training in the Bader-Pearson Developmental Couples Counseling Model, further enriching my ability to support couples in their journey towards growth and transformation.
Individual Therapy
In my work with individuals, I offer a compassionate and supportive space for personal growth and healing. I believe that therapy is a collaborative journey where individuals can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other life challenges, I am here to provide guidance and support. Together, we will work towards understanding the root causes of your difficulties, developing coping strategies, and fostering personal resilience. My goal is to empower you to overcome obstacles, cultivate self-compassion, and create a more fulfilling and authentic life.
Sex Therapy
I am also trained in the field of sex therapy. I have undergone specialized training in assessing and treating sexual dysfunction, as well as addressing issues related to low desire and mismatched libido. I understand that intimate and sexual relationships can present unique challenges, and I provide a safe and supportive space for individuals and couples to explore and address their concerns in the realm of intimacy and sexuality. Through a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, I aim to help individuals and couples enhance their sexual well-being, deepen their connection, and cultivate a fulfilling and satisfying intimate life.
Background
I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and later relocated to New Jersey with my husband. After 20 years there, we found our way to beautiful South Florida, where I have been living in Miami for the past five years.
I obtained a degree in psychology from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia, and furthered my education with a Masters in Professional Counseling from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. With over 15 years of experience as a dedicated Professional Counselor and Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I have worked with individuals, children, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds and ethnicities.
When I am not working, I find joy in spending quality time with my family, outdoor activities, practicing yoga, tending to my garden, and exploring new destinations through travel. These moments inspire me and drive my commitment to supporting others on their journey to personal growth and emotional well-being. I have been happily married for 25 years, finding strength and happiness in my loving partnership.
